MAKELLA was, for a while, the global face of a leading procurement business in the leisure and catering sector of which catering supplier 3663 was the most conspicuous UK arm. The name was an internationally pronounceable version of Latin word macellarius ‘provision dealer’ as it had to function in Arabia as well as Europe and have generally acceptable connotations. The Latin derivation and apt meaning gave it authority, depth and character. Most of the company was sold to US company Samphire Solutions in 2007.
