BACKGROUND


Mobile digital accessories provider, On Mobile, were looking to re-brand to a shorter and protectable name, descriptive On Mobile being something of a legal hostage to fortune.


They turned to Brand Union New York’s Jess Lehmann who immediately called us. On Mobile, who in 2017 provided ring-back tones, were looking both to rationalise, legally, and expand globally, so the validation element was significant.


PROJECT


The client was keen to find a sonorous, iconic, even onomatopoeic name. Many options were devised using both our Argo and Proteus programs, with additional human brain storming. The final presentation went well after initial linguistic checks in the primary languages including the top 5 Indian languages by speaker number and 35 trademark jurisdictions. Three leading candidates emerged SONMO being one. A final tweak on SONMO (sound + on mobile) produced the four letter, near palindrome (a word that reads.
